Your Prospect Will Tell You Everything!

Donor meetings are best when the donor is the center of attention and the fundraiser is a good listener. One way to accomplish this still keeping you focused on your goals, is to ask a simple question: “Would you tell me about your philanthropy?”

Most people like talking about this as much as showing you pictures of their kids or grandkids. Philanthropy means a lot to donors and they are generally happy to share what they have done and the experiences they have had.

What’s in it for you? You get to learn what other causes matter to the donor (or potential donor) and their response helps you calibrate what they might give to you, if they develop a similar passion for your nonprofit.
